John Maslowski and Sirius2 Photography

This “web site” is the creation of John Maslowski, Photographer living in Northeastern Pennsylvania, USA. It is a combination photoblog, photo gallery and whatever else comes to mind. All comments are welcome.

My interest in photography goes way back to a 35mm camera and black and white film. Had a homemade darkroom of sorts and I was hooked on picture taking and processing my own pictures. Also, took a lot of color slides back then. Kinda lost my original enthusiam for photography, then digital cameras came along. That’s when I realized I had my darkroom back, my computer, and the old excitement returned. Decided to setup a web site with a photoblog. The original photoblog software was pixelpost and is still available at Pixelpost.org. In June of 2011 I made the switch to my current software, WordPress. It’s truly been inspirational setting up this website, been up and running since February 2007. Have met so many other fellow photographers in the process. It’s great being able to share images, ideas and techniques with other fellow photobloggers throughout this small world that we dwell on. The software I mostly use for my photographic workflow consists mainly of: Dreamweaver CS5, Lightroom 3.x, Adobe PhotoShop CS5, Photomatix Pro 4 and numerous plugins for PS. Love computers and photography. Digital photography re-energized my interest in photography and in maintaining my website and photoblog. Just like everyone else, wish I had more time to devote to the things I really love doing. That’s life, you have to take it one day at a time and smell the roses when you can.

High Dynamic Range

Have been utilizing HDR for my images since it first arrived on the scene a few years ago. I bracket my exposures and mostly use Photmatix Pro by HDRSoft to create High Dynamic Range or HDR images. I am really impressed with the results. Now, whenever I go out hiking and shooting landscape pictures it’s hard for me not to attempt bracketing and then using Photomatix Pro. It does make for a longer workflow but the results more than compenstate for it. I’m convinced HDRI is the way of the future and new techniques and technology will soon make this a lot easier. Hopefully, that won’t take the fun out of it. Had someone leave a comment on my web site and tell me I’m more of a digital artist than a photographer. However, with HDRI you really need to be both. Like I said before computers and photography are my idea of a fun time, so HDRI is just a natural way for me to go.
