The image is one day after Hurricane Ida passed by Atlantic City. The waves were still high and the damage was predicted in the millions of dollars. There was still an ominous feeling from the sound of the waves crashing against this pier. However, there was a sense of relief too, now that the storm had passed.

it does feel like i'm being sucked into the pier when i look at this.. very nice capture! :) rian @ 2009-11-30 22:56:52
Incredible feeling of being pulled into this frame and an incredible speed. The light gives such an illusion and adds to the depth. Fantastic shot John. bluechameleon @ 2009-11-30 22:59:12
Another image that impressed by the dramatic and the quality of the realization of that image. Pierre @ 2009-12-01 03:10:00
Hello, global warming and rising sea levels, an image of the next century! Grandiose shot, great art. Good day, friendships. tede @ 2009-12-01 03:26:24

Wow - almost psychedelic, which is odd to say about a B&W, yet the image has a strobe-light feeling to it. Harry @ 2009-12-01 06:41:09

You've done these a few times but they still haven't gotten old. You've outdone yourself on this one. It's superb. Radiant I think is the best word to describe what I see when looking at the tones in this one. Dan Creighton @ 2009-12-01 19:48:27
Always perfect here. COngrasts for this amazing work! POlydactyle @ 2009-12-01 19:49:26
Almost makes me dizzy. The piles and pier underside create a mirror-like tube for the roiling water. At least, that is the feeling I get. Anita Bower @ 2009-12-01 20:05:19
what an ethereal atmosphere!!! just faaabulous!!! you know, your photography is approaching something 'other' than a 'photo' -- this almost looks like some sort of super fine spray painting work... simply amazing (as per usual) but 5 stars for going above and beyond -- this is beautiful and brilliant! dj.tigersprout @ 2009-12-01 20:20:44
A magical composition in every way, John. Michael Skorulski @ 2009-12-01 21:49:58
